Tarot Qi Gong VI: L'Amoureux, "The Lovers"

Tarot of Marseilles L'Amoureux, The Lovers
VI - L'Amoureux, The Lovers
CBD Tarot of Marseilles

L'Amoureux (VI), or "The Lovers," represents Divine love. It is love of the Divine for earthly entities and the love between those who live on the earth. It is love for mother and father, for child, for friend, for lover. It is love of the Divine and all that is. It is a godsend.

SETUP

Before performing this posture, it is best to begin in the Starting Tarot Qi Gong position: Le Mat or "The Fool". Do for at least 3-5 breaths to center and prepare yourself. You may choose to follow the Major Arcana postures with I: Le Bateleur, "The Magician," II: La Papesse, "The High Priestess,"  III: L'Imperatrice, "The Empress," IIII: L'Empereur, "The Emperor," and V: Le Pape, "The Hierophant." Then follow with Posture VI: L'Amoureux, "The Lovers."

THE POSTURE

From the starting position, or from Posture V, turn your feet inward to be more or less paralell. This is another even-numbered (VI), forming a solid, even structure.

Now slowly draw your hands down in front of both thighs while simultaneuously finding a very moderate bend in the knees, as if to approach a seated poistion or yogic "chair pose." Reach up towards the heavens with cupped hands, as if reaching for the helpful hand of a friend or loved one for support and comfort. Imagine Divine love from above, (the cherub in the upper half of VI, L'Amoureux), filling your cupped hands (your earthly reception of this godsend).

Tarot Qi Gong V: Le Pape, "The Hierophant"

Tarot of Marseilles Le Pape, The Hierophant
V - Le Pape, The Hierophant
CBD Tarot of Marseilles

Le Pape (V), or "The Hierophant," is the divining rod that transmits the message of the Divine to disciples on earth. Whether as religious, political, scholastic or societal leader, the rules, mandates, guidance and structure of Le Pape's message instill a higher faith and a call for order. He is the voice of god on earth, and if you choose to hear his message there is much to be gained. His words fall on ears ready to hear them.

SETUP

Before performing this posture, it is best to begin in the Starting Tarot Qi Gong position: Le Mat or "The Fool". Do for at least 3-5 breaths to center and prepare yourself. You may choose to follow the Major Arcana postures with I: Le Bateleur, "The Magician," II: La Papesse, "The High Priestess,"  III: L'Imperatrice, "The Empress," and IIII: L'Empereur, "The Emperor." Then follow with Posture V: Le Pape, "The Hierophant."

THE POSTURE

From the starting position, keep your feet the same; or from Posture IIII turn your feet to face outward towards left and right at about a 45 degree angle. This card is odd-numbered (V), looking outward and forming an uneven shape.

Now slowly raise both arms out towards each side, hands rolling open to lift palms towards the sky. Continue lifting your arms like wings until you reach shoulder level or just above. At this point roll your hands forward, palms facing down and forward. You arms should be reaching wider than shoulders distance at about 45 degree angles to your midline.

Once your arms are in this position, hold them there. The intention is as if embodying a leader, religious or otherwise, who might stand on a pulpit and hold his arms up before a gathering of disciples. Feel your connection to divine will; know you are embodying the earthly teacher of divine will; imagine the authority you have over your disciples. It behooves you to be pure, honest, open and loving.

  • Stretches: Standing hip flexor stretch (hold ankle behind your hips, stand tall through hips and ribs feeling the stretch in the hip flexor), low lunge with back knee on ground (push hips forward to feel stretch in hip flexor)
  • Acupoints: COMING SOON

  • Mudra: Abhaya mudra and varada mudra. These two mudras are very similar in appearance and are often used or shown together (as in Buddhist imagery). Abhaya mudra is held upwards with the right hand at about the level of the sternum, palm facing outward. It represents fearlessness and trust in divine protection. Varada mudra is typically held downards with the left hand at or below the navel, palm facing outward. This is a mudra of gift-giving and  a peace offering. Together, these two mudras encompass much of what Le Pape, "The Hierophant," represents, including the giving of divine knowledge, love and peace to anyone who is receptive.

  • Affirmation: "I am connected to the divine as well as the physical world. I hear the messages of divine knowledge and wisdom and share them with any who will listen. Truth, clarity, love, peace and prosperity are my banners. Strict rules and adherence to divine will maintain order in the chaos of life."

From the starting position or Posture III turn your feet to be parallel, facing directly forward. This card is even-numbered (IIII) and relates to the square which, with its four 90 degree angles, forms a solid structure. Imagine your body forming this square with your feet, hips, shoulders and arms.

After placing your feet squarely, slowly shift your arms to hang by your side with intention. You may keep your fingers extended towards the ground, or aim the center of your palms directly towards the ground with fingers facing forward (a more active energy).

Stand tall, roll your shoulder blades down and back, extend your spine long from hips to skull, and find a relaxed soldity in your entire body. Imagine yourself standing tall and strong like a statue. You may embody the stone monument of a ruler or role-model you admire. Embrace the feeling of being a powerful figure that regins over his/her realm with ease and grace.

Slowly move your hands down in front of your midsection, palms facing towards your belly in a scooping position. Keep your shoulers, arms, and hands relaxed but energized. The knees may bend a little deeper than other postures, as if you are approaching a squat birthing position.

It may help to picture this action as holding a baby in your (potential or imaginary) womb. It does not matter if you are male or female, we all have creative potential. This energy is ready for birth into the world in whatever form it needs to take for your life. Feel the warmth between your hands and midsection and picture the object of your creation, full of love and harmony with your world.

Tarot Qi Gong II - La Papesse, The High Priestess

Tarot of Marseilles La Papesse, The High Priestess
II - La Papesse, The High Priestess
CBD Tarot of Marseilles

La Papesse (II), or "The High Priestess," attunes herself to the highest potentials of the Divine. She alone glimpses the full range of secrets behind the veil, the deep wisdom inherent in the universe. She is essential femininity studying the Word, serving the Divine and holding her own Peace.

SETUP

Before performing this posture, it is best to begin in the Starting Tarot Qi Gong position: Le Mat or "The Fool". Do for at least 3-5 breaths to center and prepare yourself. You may choose to follow the Major Arcana postures with I: Le Bateleur, "The Magician." Then follow with Posture II: La Papesse, "The High Priestess."

THE POSTURE

From the starting position or Posture I, first turn your toes in slightly to prepare for the more inward and receptive Posture II. Slowly move your hands out to either side with palms facing the heavens. Stop when your arms are overhead but not touching, palms facing each other. Leave the elbows and wrists relaxed. Your arms will feel slightly curved, emulating the cloth veil above The High Priestess' head.

Focus your attention on the space between your relaxed hands. Visualize a beam of divine white light pouring down from the heavens into the crown of your head. Your hands act as the funnels that help catch this light and direct it into your spinal column. Picture this light traveling all the way through your spinal column and through your deepest bone structures to your shins (The High Priestess) and out through the bottoms of your feet.

Our bones hold the deepest knowledge of our body/mind, just as The High Priestess holds the deepest wisdom of the Divine.

Relax your back, shoulders and arms into the floor, feeling the warmth of energy between your hands.

Tarot Qi Gong I - Le Bateleur, The Magician

Tarot of Marseilles Le Bateleur, The Magician
I - Le Bateleur, The Magician
CBD Tarot of Marseilles

Le Bateleur (I), or "The Magician," commands all four suits/elements from his work table. He takes the possibilities of Le Mat and turns them into reality. This could be a Wands/Fire creative work beginning; new Cups/Water interpersonal dealings; Swords/Air intellectual plans forming; or the Pentacles/Earth forging of a new financial endeavor. Believe in magic, seek it, seize it.

SETUP

Before performing this posture, it is best to begin in the Starting Tarot Qi Gong position: Le Mat or "The Fool". Do for at least 3-5 breaths to center and prepare yourself for Posture I: Le Bateleur, "The Magician."

THE POSTURE

From the starting position simply lift your arms to the sides into a "T," moving as slowly as possible. The more slowly you move, the more sublte changes you will feel in your body.

Hold your arms in this position, picturing a line of energy extending along each arm and out through the center of your palms to either side. Extend your fingers long, pointing them towards the sky and spreading them wide. Keep everything else relaxed, especially the tops of your shoulders. Breathe.

Continue to breathe and continue to remind yourself to be light and easy in your muscles, especially in the shoulders. You will begin to feel some effort in holding this position, which is also strengthening. If at any time it is painful or uncomfortable, slowly release the posture and shake it out.

Starting Tarot Qi Gong Meditation - Le Mat, The Fool

Tarot of Marseilles Le Mat, The Fool
Le Mat, The Fool
CBD Tarot of Marseilles

It's a new year and my blog has a new focus.

Today I introduce a series of Qi Gong style meditation postures I developed from the 78 cards of the Tarot of Marseilles. Let's start with the 22 cards of the Major Arcana.

Please welcome my model for these postures: Soopsori, the wooden robot. He will play the part of Le Mat, or "The Fool," who is the playing piece throughout the journey of the Tarot deck—as well as this meditation sequence.

Tarot Qi Gong, Le Mat, The Fool
Tarot Qi Gong
Le Mat, The Fool

This first position is just the beginning, like the card itself: Le Mat. This arcanum is unnumbered—or it could be 0 or 22, depending on use. This position is simple and relaxing, and will be referred to every time as the basic starting position for the subsequent postures.

This posture is a classic Qi Gong starting point. Stand tall with your feet hips distance apart and slightly turned out, pushing firmly through the soles of your feet and toes. Your knees should be in a soft microbend—not locked, which blocks the energy flow. Your tail bone tucks forward slightly, spine long and ribs relaxed. Your arms will be held loosely at your side, joints loose and hands open towards the front and center. Tuck your chin towards your chest to lengthen your neck, and lift the crown of your head towards the sky. Finally, touch the tip of your tongue lightly to the roof of your mouth, keeping your throat, jaw and top of your shoulders relaxed.

That's it. Hold this for at least 3-10 breaths, or for any preset number of minutes. For best results in calming and centering yourself, try 3-5 minutes. To honor one of the numerology associations with this arcanum and a deeper meditation, do 22 minutes. Let your thoughts go as easily as they come in, and let your muscles, joints and sinews release any tension. Open yourself to all possibilitiesthe true power of Le Mat.
